Australian men sexually attracted to children

This story caught my attention because it’s a classic example of how agenda setting works and how journalism has sunk to the lowest common denominator. In this case it’s the ‘all men are rapists’ meme.

“Disturbing research into the extent of child sexual abuse has found almost one in six Australian men have sexual feelings towards children and teenagers, and almost one in 10 acknowledge having committed child sexual offences, despite few being caught.”

“One in 15 men admit they would have sexual contact with a child aged 14 or younger, if no one would find out. Fifteen out of 100 Australian men report sexual attraction to children and teenagers.”

Jesus F. Christ. Stop right there. First of all they are only sampling men. They need to also sample women, even though they say female offenders are less common and usually co-offenders. How do they know that? You need to sample both genders.

Men and women are sexual creatures. If you ask people whether they have ever had sexual feelings towards young people, then you are going to get a shitload of people – in this case only men – ticking the ‘yes’ box. That sets men up in the media as perverts, paedophiles, rapists, etc.

There are about 7 million males aged between 18-65 in Australia as of the 2021 Census. According to the ‘survey’ almost 1:10 said they had ‘committed’ a sexual offence against a child. That’s a rough figure of just under 700,000 kids and youth as victims.

Really? I mean, really?

The next question is, what in hells bells is the Catholic Church (Jesuits) doing helping to run a survey on sexual assault? They’re part of the problem.

I want paedophiles prosecuted and incarcerated but decontextualised stories such as this, using a ‘shock horror’ survey is just appalling. Men aren’t perfect. Far from it. But these type of stories demonise men. It’s no wonder young males don’t want to be school teachers. It’s also no wonder media consumption is plummeting.
